Charity

Consuelo is a descendant of Cornelius Vanderbilt and an established performing and creative artist, who has made a significant mark in the world. Apart from her accomplishments in these two arenas, she has also undertaken great charity works which have gone a long way to help people who are disadvantaged. Her mother, Serena Vanderbilt Van Ingen McCallum battled with cancer for a period of four years after which she succumbed to the disease.

This is largely attributed as her driving force to increase the awareness of ovarian cancer and at the same time give towards ensuring that disadvantaged people get proper treatment. To enhance her position, Consuelo has previously served as a legislative ambassador for ACS which stands for American Cancer. One of the major reasons that make people succumb to cancer is lack of early detection and to ensure that this possibility is eliminated, Consuelo lobbied in Washington to ensure that funds for early detection were increased.

Consuelo wrote the song titled “Better Days” which was dedicated to her mother and whose proceeds were directed to the ACS. In essence, this accrued to thousands of dollars. Currently, she is the active spokesperson for the OCC which stands for Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California. In this regard, it is important to state that her latest song entitled “Find a Way” was donated to the organization and as such, all the proceeds from the same will go towards supporting the organization. It is also worth noting that this same song is available for downloading at the OCC official website. It is also important to state that she has participated actively in the OCC charity walk/run held in Los Angeles for four consecutive years by singing the national anthem there. Ideally, it is also important to state that in the spirit of charity, Consuelo has also done some public speaking on the subject through the City Council conference.

It is important to note that her charity work in the fight against cancer does not stop short on the basis mentioned here. This is attributed to the fact that having experienced the effects first hand, she takes the time to ensure that families battling with the same are in a position to understand the disease and the best way to treat it. What is more, she has also participated largely in public awareness campaigns. This end has been met perfectly by her appearance on media channels to talk about her experience in the hope that other people going through the same thing will get inspired and consequently handle the illness better.

Some of the shows in which she has appeared include; Plum TV, the Women's Network and Entertainment Tonight. On the other hand, she has also been featured in magazines such as Vogue and Prestige among others. It is mainly due to her charitable nature towards the fight of cancer that the Mayor of Los Angeles honored her for her continuous belief and fight for the fight against ovarian cancer.
